I think this is exactly what is happening to me. I just cannot believe I have now used 1.3 gig of data in 16+ days. That seems excessive to me when both my wife and I were using less than 2 gig on our Verizon share plan.

I also found the face recognition setting kills battery life. This is the option to keep the screen going when it thinks you are looking at the screen. I turned it off and battery life got better. I am still tweaking things to find the right combo of options.
