Actually whether they have or not is very much relevant. If they did in fact ever do it the circumstances surrounding why they did (thwart some malicious process/app vs casual BS) is also very relevant.

I understand why the ability exists, its a matter of excercising it in an ethical manner. Just saying "well apple can to" is a moot point. When they pull this they deserve to be called out for it and people will question being able to trust them.

Are you claiming what Google did was an emergency? To prevent something malicious?

Maybe I wasn't clear, I'm a little upset they can do both and try to do it without anyone knowing or announcing it, or giving me the option to opt in or out of their experiments.
