I personally never use one (even on a Windows computer). For Android, I ONLY ever install apps that are in the play store, and even then, I carefully look at the permissions required, etc. If you are installing apps from outside the Play Store, then I'd say, yeah, use an Anti-Virus app...

I just recently read an article on "App Skinning" which is really just about what you asked...ie, taking a game, changing the graphics maybe slightly changing the game play... or in some cases it could be a completely new game. But, I think we can agree that in all cases, the rationale is $$...
