Yeah there are certainly cut-outs which is how I can tell it isn't perfectly aligned :)
It might actually be glass. It's really stiff and glued on there super tight.
New from 3. It's not refurbished, I don't think (far too clean and undamaged). But I can certainly tell there's something adhesed over the glass! And potentially, bits behind that

I love the Samsung phones, but their UI (touchwiz) is notoriously the worst one offered. Download and install Nova Prime or Next3D Launcher

If they are using inferior glass that shatters easily (sounds likely) you don't want them to be the ones to replace it. If you can find a relatively cheap but good eBay specialist who will fit it with 'gorilla' glass, do that instead

Np. You can also check what you have turned on (do you constantly leave GPS on?) and also root and install a CPU altering app like SetCPU to underclock the phone (thus saving a little juice, at the expense of smooth use and transitions). I used SetCPU on my old S4, nice app

Also try installing Facebook, clearing the apps cache (the cache of the individual app), then restart your phone (don't launch Facebook yet). Uninstall Facebook, reboot again. Then install and run it again.

You could also try installing an old version of Facebook via .apk file and then having that re update itself into the latest version. Sounds backwards I know but has fixed a few apps for me...
There are other app stores you can download too such as the mentioned Amazon one, but also SlideME...

You should be able to open your apps draw and long-press/hold the camera icon from there. Usually doing that will allow you to pop the icon back on the 'desktop'-like environment

You can try rooting your device and giving it a slight overclock with an app like SetCPU if you are confident. There may also be custom launchers you can download which are more lightweight.
Use a task-manager like app to discern which apps or software elements are eating up your RAM and...
