Issue is solved, was actually an apex setting that said show shadows which i hadn't seen before.

I haven recently been trying to customize my home-screen and have realized that there is this dark gradient at the top and bottom of the home-screen. the gradient appears behind the icons in the app drawer and no app are affected by this. it is only the home-screen wallpaper that gets affected...
