Read the OP. He is talking about photon-torpedo... not the HD dock hack. The photon-torpedo root method did NOT change.

Has anyone determined why some phones won't update? Mine was in that bunch, even after factory reset it would fail update. I had to manually apply the leak to get it current. I haven't seen but a handful of people that had that problem and haven't seen any revelations on the matter.

You're doing something wrong when you tried to reapply. Nothing changed that affected root access, you just have to apply it again.

I've got the Otterbox Commuter and it is excellent. Fit and finish is great, and the screen protector is the easiest one to install I've ever seen. Almost impossible to get air bubble in it unlike the usual thin film ones. The feel in your hand is nice too; coming from an Epic the Photon felt...
