John, Try a higher amperage plug. I use a 1.8 or 2.0 amp plug. This seems to help. I got the same problem at first charging uncharging, over and over. The higher amperage plugged fixed the problem.

Clearing cache, data and force stopping does NOT fix the problem. Uninstalling updates gets it working again, and I reset the settings to not update apps. But play automatically keeps updating itself. This just started this weekend. Have multiple phones and it only happens on the LG Optimus G...

Try using ES file explorer. It's the best file manager. I have it on all of my devices. I have an older version that I like better than the newer version. Anything you want to do can be viewed on videos on YouTube. Cheers, Frank.
