My phone and OS can't be that out of date, because the current version of Maps installs correctly and has full, 100% functionality. The issue has nothing to do with out of date this or out of date that. Google has introduced a bug which they have never acknowledged and never fixed.

Google makes the Android OS, and they make the Maps app. Support it properly (i.e don't introduce bugs elsewhere on the phone) or don't support it at all. I have submitted several bug reports over the last 2 years. Just another big corporation that doesn't give a damn.

Many, many thanks to karam Singh1 for diagnosing the problem. His (or her) solution is 100% right. This has been bugging me for a few years. Google only has bazillions of dollars - one of their programmers could spend half a day fixing this, instead of many users having unnecessary hassles...

re: Why settings> Display & Gestures = Scratches? Hi everyone. I'm also having exactly the same problem, only with the Display and Gestures setting. All exactly as per the OP. If anyone has solved this, I'd be most appreciative. HTC Desire 628 (not dual sim), all updated with latest updates...
