Same thing happened to me. How do we fix it?

Just switched from a Storm 2 and so far like the phone. Question is when you press the message button and it takes you to the sms/msm screen at the bottom there is 3 icons. On my phone there is is a number 1 in a blue circle next to the first 2 icons. can not figure out what this is for. please...
