Hi. Thank you so much for your reply; I feel like I'm getting somewhere now. :) The ads were popping up when I was browsing in Chrome. They were really more like phishing attempts than ads, such as 'Virgin' telling me I had 3 minutes to click a link and get a brand new £1000 phone or some such...
