Just in case anyone has this problem and finds this thread, the phone had to be replaced. No one could figure it out. Now there is a new software update. I probably won't be participating. :/

Everyone cross your fingers you don't develop this problem. I now have to get a loaner from Verizon and send mine in to Samsung. Such fun! Not happy.

No such luck on wiping the cache to fix it. Would still like to hear from anyone with this problem. If it is just me, probably no chance an update will come out to fix it.

I had forgotten about wiping the cache. I'll try that before a reset. If I knew the reset would work, I'd do it but not unless I know for sure. If anyone else reading this has this problem let me know. I'm curious. Thanks!

You are lucky. I have 5.1.1 and it happens. I think thinks a Google problem, as stated above. But it's lucky I don't have to restart mine. It will go away luckily with just powering the screen off and back on. Either way, a pain.

Too chicken to try this but if you go into Settings, Applications, then Google Text to Speech Engine and there is an Uninstall Updates button. Thoughts? But one question, why is it Text to Speech??? Shouldn't it be Speech to Text? Definitely not clicking for now.

Same thing happening here. Somehow automatic app updates got turned on a couple of days ago when I was trying to figure out a Play Store problem (an error so I can't purchase anything, in other words I can't spend my money there. Nice!). The update for whatever Google app this falls under is...
