Sorry. I mean the cable I mean the cable in step 7 part 2 of the guide. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Motorola+Moto+X+2nd+Generation+Battery+Replacement/40717. It's the button cable and is unrelated to the battery. But it was stuck down on the battery and I pried it up like the guide shows.

Sorry. Wrong cable. I'm talking about the cable they remove in step 7 picture 2. guide Which is the connection for power and volume. It had adhesive.

The problem is that it seems like that connection was grounding it somehow. So I feel like tape might block the connection.

I followed this guide to replace my battery https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Motorola+Moto+X+2nd+Generation+Battery+Replacement/40717 On step 8 the flex cable is attached to the back of the battery with some sort of adhesive. The cable doesn't stick anymore and my volume down button is broken...
