I finally had the chance to test this again and it seems as the the problem has subsided. An update to a newer version of CM seems to have fixed it.

When using Google maps or any navigation app, such as Waze, during longer trips (2+ hrs) the application begins to lag and freeze. Restarting the phone temporarily fixes the problem, but then it goes right back to being laggy. This can be frustrating when traveling in areas you do not know...
