I resolved this in my case.
it looks like the samsung smart switch doesn't handle the files as elegantly as we'd like.
I ended up making sure that the 'date taken' property (I'm windows 8) of the images was correct (I used a tool call exiftool to set some that weren't right based on the...
I went back and took another look at the photos, they don't appear to have all the correct exif info in them, I think the migration might be to blame, I'm going to have another look at whether I have a version of them with all the info, that will probably then sort correctly.

A few things I've noticed. I need to make sure that I switch my usb connection to the same one as it was on my first sync (camera or media device) it seems to sometimes think that they are different 'devices'.
My playlists come across fine, although I did have a drama once...

A quick add on to TXDreamer1's post, you may have to scroll down through the options (it's really not intuitive at all) you won't even realise you can scroll down just by looking.....
For music have a look at doubletwist, I'm on Windows, but it works great for me, can choose which playlists to 'sync' to the phone.
I've invested much time on my itunes playlists, so I was stoked to be able to do this.
You can root your phone, and get rid of those messages. I've done it and it works great.
