This is the new Samsung standard for JB4.3 on all of their devices, it has replaced the little circle you used to get with JB 4.1 on the left side of the lock screen when you had a SMS, or on the right side when you had a missed phone call. It is like that on the S4 and the Note 3 too. Cheers

You can always load your favorite wallpaper up into a photo/image editor and paint the top several rows of pixels black if you want it that way, then as the transparent status bar sits on top of that, it would look exactly like it used to. Just sayin... sometimes brute force low tech works...

Downloading now for the SGH-I747M on MTS (Manitoba Regional Carrier)! Nice thing about MTS - they give us the raw firmware direct from Samsung without any customizations or bloatware additions of their own (along with unlimited data for $10/month less than Rogers/Telus/Bell) TRJB

My wife had a very similar problem, I looked at her apps manager, under "all" and scrolled to the bottom of the list where the disabled apps were shown, and there was a system app/component she managed to disable by accident. I can't remember what it was, but it was related to Google...

Go into your contacts, find the contact you're having trouble with, edit mode, menu button, add a field, select 'phonetic name' and give it a phonetic/common spelling. That will help svoice and Google Now find uncommonly spelled names. I know it's a pita, my shatty old blackberries way...
