This problem is very annoying, I've searched high and low and the only fix I found was to install Wanam Xposed. It allows you to change the home button functionality. You can also disable the short cut to task manager. I did this and it cured the problem. The app is useful for other things too...

Rooting is the way, many of the Samsung & Google apps can be deleted or disabled when rooted. This can improve both battery life and performance. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Don't use Apple as an example, each new iPhone is designed using a piece of tracing paper over it's predecessor. Samsung if anything is copying Apple by releasing an almost identical phone each year. Posted on Samsung GS4
