It shouldn't be that much longer, carriers are rolling it out for S5 and Note 4, I've got it on my spare phone (HTC One M7) - it should be coming soon.

It's really cheap for a replacement board and the repair isn't difficult. Just replaced mine for $20. I'm about to put a new external speaker in as well - they're so easy to replace :)

Are you serious? Even a tiny bit of research on your own could give you that info. And yes you need a custom recovery - it allows you to install the customized ROM. That's the whole point lol. How could you consider swapping to Apple? No such thing as custom ROMs. You're limited to the OS they...

a) if you have even the slightest know-how, you can download software updates and flash them to your phone ANY TIME YOU WANT. b) with an iPhone, you are forced to update only when they want, and you can't change or roll back software at your discretion. It's ridiculous. Good luck with that

If you have patience and some know-how, you can replace the screen yourself with parts from eBay. I replaced my S2 screen before passing the phone along and it worked very well, I saved a ton!

Or try going into download mode and wiping cache/dalvik cache - worked when I flashed my I747M and got stuck at the Samsung logo and it worked like a charm :)
