I have the sm-g920v as well and no luck rooting. I do however have both local and cloud backups if anything happened to it. Even if rooting is possible, you're probably not going to be able to get any meaningful data recovery. You'd have been better off sending the phone to a professional data...

The widescreen cenima standard is 21:9

I have an S8+ and it's true there's no IR for controlling TVs. That's one of the reasons I've held onto my S6.

I like it for watching wide format video, and it is easier to hold and use than a wider phone with the same screen area. I think it's a more nuanced decision than most people realize.

I installed it yesterday, added an app scanner by mcafee. Haven't noticed any other difference.

I'm not going to upgrade from my S8+ for a multitude of reasons. I love what Google is doing with the Pixel 2, but it's just not a good move for me right now. I think I'll probably go for the Pixel 3 if it gets wireless charging and a micro SD slot.

I updated mine, my wife hasn't, beside the UI changes, there's not much difference. If you have problems with the update 90% of the time it can be fixed with a factory reset.

My S6 had that temporary holding area, S8+ does not. Idk if there's an option to turn it on, never made use of it myself.

You can install Samsung Smart Switch on your PC and get the Nougat update that way.
