Can I remove the "microphone/Google search bar" tabby thing at the top of my home screen?

Re: Can I remove the "microphone/Google search bar" tabby thing at the top of my home screen? I tried disabling Google Search, but after rebooting it was enabled, and Google Search widget is still there. I also tried disabling the com.Google.android.googlequicksearchbox.SearchWidgetProvider...

Which USB OTG cable fits perfectly on Nexus 7 32gb

After buying some real POS cable from Amazon (EarlyBirdSavings; connector too long; totally unreliable connection), I got a StarTech (from Amazon). Perfect fit, nice and snug; better than the power/data cable that came with the N7. The StarTech isn't cheap, but it was worth it.

Some files on sdcard not visible in Windows Explorer

Hi, all. If I use ES File Explorer to back up an app, the .apk is written to the /sdcard/backups/apps folder. If I plug the N7 into my Windows 7 64-bit laptop and browse to that folder, the .apk file is not listed. Other files in that folder (also .apks) are listed. I recently unlocked and...

Returning 16GB (RMA); new 32GB; how to proceed...

I just started reading from page 78 where I'd paused. Mark says, "It works perfectly with jzo54k." So, that's good news :-) And now in the first post, this line has been updated to: "Root Stock Jelly Bean builds (upto 4.1.2 JZO54K)" It was at an earlier version/build when I first found his...

Returning 16GB (RMA); new 32GB; how to proceed...

I don't have a ton of apps, so reinstalling/configuring them won't be too bad. I will definitely look into saving to the sdcard, and then to PC. That's my preferred method. I don't use it for email, and bookmarks are already syncing to the cloud. re: OTA update, I'm monitoring his xda-dev...

Returning 16GB (RMA); new 32GB; how to proceed...

Thanks for the quick reply. Good to know there's no point in rooting the 16GB just to backup not much. And I think you answered the question I forgot to ask: Is it sufficient and secure to do a Factory Reset (from within Settings, yes?) before returning it? That would be the last step...

Returning 16GB (RMA); new 32GB; how to proceed...

Hi, all. Here's my situation. I got the 16GB eight days ago. Since I can return it to Google, it's going back (already have the RMA and UPS shipping label). I got the 32GB today at Staples. My 16GB is totally stock. I've been reading up on how to root it, but as I'd like to use mskip's Google...

Just picked up my Nexus 7 32GB @ Staples

Just picked up a 32GB today at the Staples in Culpeper, VA, the only store between Fredericksburg and there to have it. I bought the 16GB eight days ago, so back to Google it goes. They were very understanding, generating the RMA and UPS return label without fuss.

    Greetings

Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm a total Android newbie. In fact, I don't even own an Android device... yet, but in the next few days we will be the proud(?) owners of a Kindle Fire HD (my better half's toy) and a Nexus 7. I look forward to the helpful advice I've already...
