Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

As far as the HDR playback issue with colour banding, it could be both hardware and software. The different HDR standards and if its a 8bit or 10bit panel. That would explain why some HDR videos have the issue while others don't. Black crush/blend is a different problem though. For HDR related...

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

HDR photo capture is something completely different from HDR video playback. Your screen displays HDR photos with the same brightness as normal photos. Try it yourself by taking an HDR photo with your device. Mine surely doesn't look anywhere near like an HDR video in terms of brightness and...

That's a misconception. Read my post above.

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

There is a reason why the screenshot of Jeremy appears normal when viewed from the photo app. The original video on Amazon is displayed with HDR On by default and that is what's causing the colour banding. But when you take a screenshot of any HDR video, the HDR effect is immediately stripped...

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

On mine the eggs issue is visible in all brightness levels. It does get progressively worse though as I go lower but still can't match the S8 picture even at maximum level. Leave your screen on Auto brightness in a dark room if you're unsure. If there is an issue, it should be clearly visible...

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

From the photo of Jeremy you provided, no, I can't see the issue. As for the wallpapers, mine displays significant colour banding in low light. It is more apparent with blue and purple wallpapers. The dark parts of the wallpapers appear grainy and the colours don't smooth evenly. There is also...

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

Since this is affecting only S9+ so far, it looks more likely to be a hardware fault. Video codecs and resolution has nothing to do with it since the problem can be reproduced using simple screenshots that appear normal in other devices. It is also visible on Samsung's default infinity...

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

I've received the new handset and unfortunately it has the same issue. Can any member with S9+ confirm if their handset doesn't have this problem? I haven't read any issues yet with the regular size model so it would be good to know if only the plus models are affected.

My S8 has failed those tests too but still doesn't have this problem.

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

I've got a UPS update that my handset is arriving tomorrow. I give the courrier my current handset along with the box and all accessories that came with it and he hands me a new one. They also gave me a call this morning to reconfirm details like IMEI, model number, address etc. This is very...

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

03307267467. Double check it but it's simply the technical customer support from their website. A software bug that affects devices in different degree? I'd like to believe Samsung but sounds a bit off.

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

I've purchased through the online Samsung Store as part of the Samsung Upgrade Programme. It is the S9+ Single SIM. For what is worth I've heard that there are some delays for Dual SIM phones though. Maybe this is the case here but ask them.

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

No, UK. But I'm assuming Samsung should have the same policy for customer support? I could be wrong but maybe worth a try to ask them for this option.

Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

Who knows how many affected devices are out there then. It could be another fiasco like last year's infamous S8 red screens. Surprised by the tech support response. You have to send them back the device yourself and wait? In my case they are sending me a new device tomorrow to swap with. Maybe...
