I've observed something similar. If I just click off my Nexus 7, which apparently puts it in a sleep mode, with a day or two it's dead. I had to revive it by recharging and holding the power button for 30 seconds as documented on other forum issues. I even read to turn off the wifi when not...

Same thing happened to me. I tried all sorts of button combinations, but I didn't know of the 30 sec button press that I read about here. It seems to me the Nexus runs low on power fairly quickly and ends up dead.
