I fixed this issue by removing the SIM card and blowing in the hole... Like an old Nintendo game... (I suggest using compressed air lol... Mouth breathers like us shouldn't blow in our electronics) Anyway this worked.... I did this... Called my husband who initially heard static.... I blew in...

from here (see picture)... select the EDIT function in the top corner... and under your HIDDEN functions... pull the screen shot back up to the active applications
