i don"t have the gmail app enabled bcoz it wants access to everything but a blood sample and dna sample.

mine doesn't have a "settings" option, and the "manage accounts" option has no way to sign out.

nope. i researched 2 step verification now, and no, i do not have it yet, so that is not why google play store says i need to sign in.

will it work if i turn it on? or are you saying that if it is on, that may be why it is not working?

when i go to Google play store and try to update any app, i get a message that says "Authentication is required, you must sign into your Google account." But I am signed into my google account. So what is the problem?

I do not even know what the Galaxy Apps Store is. I have never been there or used it. Now I'm afraid to try to clear up room on my device becoz it may suddenly get filled up with this huge upgrade I don't even want, then I won't have room for more things i do want, like more photos.

In Play Store settings, I turned off auto update, but I still keep getting that message that says it's trying to download that huge update, and I cannot see how to cancel any downloads.

This forum seems like a big mess, with everyone having different and contradictory info, but I'll ask this anyway. With Galaxy S5, is there a difference between having "Restrict background data" on and having "Mobile data" turned off? They are both near the top of the Data usage app in Settings.
