Looking up your question on Google seems to indicate that it is a rating indicator. 1 being soft and higher numbers indicate harder material.

Some apps will hide your downloads. For instance Barns&Noble hides my downloads in a secret folder somewhere. I could never find those downloads, but they play OK. What app are you referring to?

Just use a hand warmer. They last 18 hours or so and are pretty cheap to purchase. Get the large ones sometimes found at Walmart.

Like the posts above show, some like them, some do not. So it's probably a niche product where some can find a use for it and others not so much. I personally do not use one and do not see the need at this time to spend the money on a product that I would use for a day or two then put it in...
