I'm having the same issue. Using a GS3 on Rogers. Tried all of the above as well as switching languages, no dice.

I tried that didn't work for me.

How does it determine what the best way to communicate the answer is (Environment? type of question?)

I can't get Google Now to speak back answers either... No luck anywhere finding answers either. I have the volume up, I have changed langues (English US, English Canada, English UK) all without success.
