I couldn't get the Market install working because I couldn't get ADB working, but in Ubuntu (Oneiric) when I inserted the sdcard, Ubuntu automatically created several mount points - including /media/system. Then all I had to do was .. sudo cp -v GoogleServicesFramework.apk /media/system/app...
