    Desinia, how about setting the Location Mode to "Device sensors only" as opposed to "High accuracy" as suggested by Kudtzu, have you tried that?

    nexus 7 microphone

    My Nexus 7 32GB (2012) does the same thing. When in portrait mode, the tablet uses the top mic which works fine, but when in landscape mode it automatically switches to the side mic which produces static noise. You can test yours with Hi-Q MP3 app.
