Long pressing the menu key brings up google now, not sure if long pressing the menu key always brought up google search but they may have done this since google now is supposed to be accessable via an up swipe on stock jelly bean but that doesn't seem to work because of touch wiz.

Google Now is accessed even faster on the Menu button (long press). Rather then holding the middle button to get to the Google Now button, the menu button directly launches Google Now. The Google Now icon is supposed to display from a bottom swipe up but the menu long press is even faster...
