I'm happy with the Eris quality. Very good fit and finish. I've dropped it twice with no ill effects at all. The rubberized coating seems to provide considerable cushioning.

Voice commands with a Bluetooth headset do not work. I haven't seen this listed as a planned update.

Bluetooth on the fly and speed dialing Yes, you can access other programs while on the phone, including going into Settings and turning on Bluetooth. I just verified this on my Eris. And yes, you can set up speed dials. While at the Phone screen, press the Menu button. You'll see a Speed Dial...
