    What is "Protect Encrypted Data"

Think of it as the pre-boot BitLocker password on Windows. When enabled, immediately after the bootloader completes, you're prompted for your unlock pattern. Only after the pattern is given will Android OS boot. It's kinda like a "keep the authorities off my phone" setting. Once powered off...

Both 4G and Wifi running at the same time

The LG G4 has a similar feature under Settings → Wi-Fi → Advanced Wi-Fi called "Avoid bad Wi-Fi connections". One thing to note is that this can mess with any attempt to log into a Wi-Fi portal (e.g. something that makes you accept an agreement before connecting). As soon as the phone...

    Overheating message since KitKat update.

I've been able to make some minor progress with my overheat and battery usage issues. In no particular order: Froze Samsung* and S * (e.g. S Health, S Memo, S Note, S Translate, S Voice, etc.). Froze Backup, BlurbCheckout, Cloud, Easy settings, Filter Installer, PageBuddyNotiSvc, Security...

"Cooling down" message keeps popping up since kk update

Thanks for the quick reply, Conan. Mine was installed directly from Recovery after a full wipe, so (hopefully) I'm not running into the same issue. Index Service isn't in my top battery drainers under Battery settings. It lists the usual suspects: Android System, Screen, Android OS, Google...

    Overheating message since KitKat update.

I've been running KitKat (I545VRUFNC2) for about 48 hours and just got this message. I've got the phone on while charging, which some say should be avoided, but I've never had a problem pre-KitKat. Does anyone know of a way to disable/freeze/uninstall this feature? – Dave

    Who still has one?

This past Tuesday, May 21st, 2013, I caved and upgraded to the quad-core, 1.9 GHz, Snapdragon 600-based Samsung Galaxy S4. I will miss my top-of-the-line-at-the-time HTC Incredible 2. It is currently in the final stages of being wiped and handed down to my grandson for gaming + Skype + TiKL +...

The best source for DInc2 rooting is here: [GUIDE] Comprehensive S-OFF/Root Methods - xda-developers I used the Revolutionary S-OFF & Recovery Tool and it was a one-stop rooting/S-OFF process, but read the above thread before proceeding. - Dave

How's the signal strength of the Verizon Galaxy S4?

Another data point. Compared to my signal-challenged HTC Incredible 2, I consistently have at least +1 bar more on the GS4, all other things being equal. And it keeps right up with my wife's Motorola DROID 4. - Dave

    Google Wallet On VZW GS4

Yeah, I just ran into this same disappointment a few minutes ago. Now that I have a sexy, new, NFC-enabled GS4, I thought I could be one of the cool kids. Maybe some day. - Dave

    Who still has one?

My DInc2 is still my daily driver. It's unlocked, rooted, OC'ed, and running CM10. There's no big reason to retire it -- that is, unless the GS4 catches my fancy. - Dave Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk 2

    Folder Location for Ringtones?

I ran into this issue again recently. I ended up using Root Explorer to forced my ringtones and notifications into the read-only system folder /system/media/audio. I then stumbled upon a beauteous application called Rescan Media. After executing this immensely simple app, about five minutes...
