I had the 6 plus for 10 days and it was the notifications that drew me back to Android along with lower prices. Hopefully the the good phone drop in price.

Exactly. Samsung and iPhones are not budget. And pricing the phone the pixel at $500-$650 would not be considered a budget phone but more in line considering it's limitations. I need a water proof phone for a phone that costs more than $600.

Consider the cost to download google maps if you use them offline. For two years you may be fine but any more than that may be a stretch because of updates. I uses about 16gb but on a trip may not have access to wifi to upload to google phots. That is where 64gb would have been nice. BUt 128 GB...
