Mine does this. I think it's my screen protector. When it happens I wipe the top of the screen where the sensor is and the screen lights up.

Same here. My wife's Fire died completely. Called them up and they sent a new one right out. No hassles.

There is a problem with the phone changing it's (I think you call it) radio setting. Here's how I got out of it when it happened to me. Boot the phone with the cover off. Go to the phone dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* A menu screen will come up labelled: Testing Select: Phone information...
