Pixel 3 XL user here. I've been using stock android phones since 2010 or so. If I can recall correctly smart lock made its way onto the Nexus 4. It's never worked effectively as far as I know. All my phones have been Google phones except briefly a OnePlus 5. Smart lock is wholly unreliable...
