What tablet do you have? One general option is WiFi File Explorer as long as you have WiFi access.

If you ONLY want to use the device as an e-reader I would recommend the Kindle Paper-White (I do not own it). The cost is much lower than a Nexus 7. The reviews identify it as the superior e-reader on the market. If however, you want more functionality than an e-reader I would definitely buy...
