The source of my chimes was the local NBC affiliate's weather app. (in my case, KXAN in Austin, TX) The timing was always random (occasionally awkward) and it was very loud. They were not notifications. They did not show up on any logs. Deleted the app. A shame, as it was, otherwise, very useful.

I, too am getting the NBC chime about twice a day at random times. It is not a notification that shows up on the log. It is not an installed sound, either. Did anybody ever figure this out? Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't have the three dots on option to uninstall updates in the screen.

It seems this is a function of the updated Messages app. I lost the widget on 8.1, as well. Also, color coding contacts is no longer allowed.

If you press your Recents button on the navigation bar while the ad is playing, you can long press the icon in the top left of that window. It will identify the offending app. You can then uninstall it. FLV Player did this to me about once a day. I finally found this solution in a thread on this...
