The basic difference is in the lighted screen vs e-ink. Some find that the "glare" is distracting, even with the brightness adjusted. I have no trouble and like the "kindle-size" format of the N7 over my iPad3 for much reading of my reading and browsing. Depending on your HD stored book's format...

What format did you start with? And what program did you use to convert them to epub? The only difficulty I have ever had with any of the readers was when the files were DRM'd....

As to the connection problem.... first thing I would do is try another cable. Maybe you just have a wonky one. Second: check USB connection settings on the N7... you want Media Device to be checked off [Third: as it says there in settings, you need to use AFT on a Mac]

Movies converted to a format that is quite acceptable on the Nexus7 typically take up less than a gig of storage. After watching, Delete... no storage problemo! Books are no problem whatsoever.

Just hold it down until it flashes, then drag it to the button at the top of the display. It disappears into the app file, not uninstalled or disabled... just gone from your app screen and you then go get a different browser in the GPlay store...
