It's plastic film. They definitely don't feel as nice as glass but I don't trust myself to go protector-less.

Download the update in the app as I'm sure you did. Then I just went into the system menu and update and hit the gear in the top right and hit local upgrade and select the downloaded file. It seemed to work for me no root or recovery nonsense.

I tried to do a before and after test and they look very similar to me. Sorry they are sideways haha. But top is old and bottom is new.
