Why won't my Ellipse turn on?

My tablet opened ok. While downloading a Google app update, my tablet turned off - black screen. I tried power button, unit would not turn back on. Went to Verizon store to see Tech. She was "stumped." She could not get unit to start up again. Battery is good. Able to be recharge as normal. The battery screen is ONLY screen I can get. Tech's advice: Go home and let unit sit for a couple of days w/o use. Maybe something is going on inside unit and it needs time to do." I asked her if downloading the Google app had something to do with it turning off. She wasn't sure. The warranty period is over, so it looks like I'll have to buy another unit.
