this past Tuesday I got an invite to get the amazon echo frame. I went ahead and ordered one for an early Christmas present. In case you don't know what it is, it is eye glass frame with alexa in the frame. UPS delivered it Thursday and I have been playing around with it today.

Though it makes this balding, fat, old guy dorky looking with the black oversized frames it actually worked pretty good. I am impressed with it. I wore it around the apartment all day and used it instead of the echos show fives I have in every room. No problems with commands, no problems playing music or news or reading my emails. Others around me could not hear it. Did not have a chance to make any phone calls with it nor received any so I don't know how well that works. as far as I can tell, it can still do just about everything an echo dot does but with better sound. What really surprised me was how light it was. My regular glass are heavier.

I used it as a hands free in the car since I normally keep my phone in the pocket to prevent temptation and no problems there.

Only a couple of complaints about it. Price is way too high and it will be much higher when it can be bought without an invitation. IMO, they need to knock at least a hundred off of the price. The only other complaint is the plastic frames. they seem cheap and only one style - dorky. It is something I won't wear in public other than in the car or in the yard.

anyway, thought I would share since it is a different type of alexa device.

They look pretty decent on the product page, style-wise. Is the sound via bone conduction?

they did look decent in the pictures but not on me :-) as far as bone conduction, I believe so. I see no speaker holes.

I received mine on Wednesday. I'm okay with the price point because I usually spend more on my everyday frames. I have not taken them to have the lenses made into my prescription yet. I'm just wearing them with my contacts for now. I do agree they feel like cheap plastic! Already, I feel like my touchpad stops working intermittently and there's no documentation to tell me why. I don't know if it goes into a sleep mode or something. I'm also wondering if it could be due to the cold, I'm in New York and it's pretty cold right now. Amazon customer support's answer is reset the frames. Well, I don't really want to have to reset my frames all day long!

I feel like the frames have a hard time connecting back to my phone after my phone has been connected to another Bluetooth device like my car audio. Sometimes it'll connect for audio and I think everything's okay but then I'm not getting any notifications.

It is not bone-conduction, there are two tiny speakers directly above your ears on each side. People around me can hear them.

I listen to audiobooks a lot! While I get ready for work, while I'm in the car, while I'm cooking etc. The battery life on the frames are not that great. I carry the charging cable with me everywhere.

On a funny note, since it's the holidays and I'm seeing all my family every time I hug someone, they accidentally rub the side of my glasses as they hug me and I keep getting "no recent phone notifications".

I thought it was bone conduction, tells you what I know :-) just did a bit of search and they mentioned it being bone conduction but the articles was dated september before much was really known about them. at this time, for my use, battery life is okay though I will need to get another cable for when I go back to work after the holidays. I tend to forget the cable if I had to carry it around.

I have not had to reset my frames yet. Not even after the android update on my phone.

Look like I would need two of them if I decided to wear them all the time. one pair for when I am wearing contacts and one with prescription lenses when I am not wearing contacts.

so far the only problem I had was when I made a test call last night and it would not disconnect. I had to hunt down my phone to disconnect since I got one of those auto answering recordings that kept going on and on and on...

so far I have had no problems sharing bluetooth with my smartwatch.

I definitely need another cable too!! I don't know if they sell them yet.

I don't have problems with Bluetooth when paired with my SmartWatch but I do with my car audio.

You'll have to let me know when you get the lenses made how it goes with the optometrist.

they sell the cables. I just looked and they are 15 bucks. delivery would be monday.

I am a bit disappointed about battery life. at my age, I need the speakers a bit louder and a 20 minute drive playing one episode of old time radio the shadow, it dropped to 40 percent. so any drive of about an hour would basically "do it in"

One command I wish would work on it is to ask about battery left. You could do it with the tab but when I tried it with the frames, it said it did not have a battery. you can find it on the phone but the phone may not be handy, especially while driving.

after over a week of use, I find that they do come in handy. I can take timers with me and I can take items off the shopping list as I get them from the store shelf in stores with good wifi. They perfect for when outside in the storage shed. I tried putting a dot out there but it did not work in the cold or heat.

when I am home, I do not wear the smartwatch. believe it or not, the glasses will pickup phone notifications. it will also do skills so it will let me know when I have email and read them to me.

the accuracy of the commands is a whole lot better than regular dots. If wearing the glasses all the time, there would be no need for the other echo devices for most users.

what I don't like, the glasses themselves, still think they look dorky. all I need to do is to put tape around the nose piece and look like a stereotypical nerd. IMO, they are more for the your, professional crowd, not some fat old guy.

If I wanted to use them all the time, I would need two pairs, one for contacts and one when I take them out. wish I got the earbuds instead. I guess they went with glasses because some insurance will cover the cost of the glass and might even cover the frame. good selling point.

If I had to describe the music, it is a bit better than the original dot but not by much.

I also wish the battery was better. If not use it for music, audiobooks or podcasts, then it will last just about all day - otherwise it will only last a couple of hours. the charger cable has a magnetic connection to the glasses without a port so a couple of times it did not charge properly. good thing it charges fast.

Thought it was just me. Bluetooth off and on, reopen Alexa app. Sound doesn't come through frames sometimes. By the time they start working the battery is at 50 and it doesn't have enough to reconnect to Bluetooth unless they recharge to 100 again. Phone is at 100% and less than 2 feet away. Enjoy your weather. Michigan is chilling up as well!

sound not coming through the frames is something new. It started with me a couple of weeks ago when I was getting off of work and wanted to catch the weather. alexa gave the weather forecast and it had a strange sound to it like a blown speaker. It took me a minute before I realized the sound was coming from the phone in my pocket. It happened several times since then. cannot for the life of me figure this one out. It is okay most of the time.
