Report: No monthly updates for latest Motorola phone models

Motorola will not be conducting regular monthly security updates for its new Moto Z, Moto Z Force and Moto G4 mobile phones, and will instead issue security patches in conjunction with scheduled maintenance releases and OS upgrades, the company has confirmed to Ars Technica.

The Lenovo-owned mobile company cited the rigors of the updating process as the main thrust behind its policy. “Motorola understands that keeping phones up to date with Android security patches is important to our customers. We strive to push security patches as quickly as possible. However, because of the amount of testing and approvals that are necessary to deploy them, it's difficult to do this on a monthly basis for all our devices. It is often most efficient for us to bundle security updates in a scheduled Maintenance Release (MR) or OS upgrade,” the company wrote in a statement to Ars Technica.

Given the frequency of "scheduled maintenance releases," probably best not to hold your breath.

My next device will being a Nexus is looking increasingly likely.

No surprise at all.

No one else is really doing monthly globally besides Nexus and BlackBerry.
