Smartphone Shuts Down Sometimes

Hi,

I have Samsung A5 2017 for about 3 years now. This year I noticed it started shutting down sometimes despite having battery life still. You can see that here where battery life goes from about 45% to the bottom:



I haven't found any power intensive apps. What is going on here and can it be fixed?

The battery is most likely worn out and needs replacement. I don't think replacing it should be too expensive, and it would give you better battery life. It might also be giving you a wrong battery percentage, which would explain why it shuts down at 45%.

I agree, this is most likely a failing battery that is worn out.

I saw disassembly video of that model. A heat gun is required to loosen up the glue around frame to take it apart. I don't have heat gun though.

Once you let it gather battery stats after couple days you can see where you battery capacity at , but does sound like battery.
If you haven't taken a phone apart before it's best to have a phone repair center do this .

@mustang7757 I don't rely on smartphone repair centers because the device can end up worse than it was before you sent it in.

Unfortunately, then you're looking at getting a new phone.

Soon it won't be possible to replace not only battery but any part because manufacturers lock down configurations , enslaving consumers to keep spending.

Understand , but unexpirenced person trying fix this can cause the same issue.

Keep in mind that there are other reasons to have a non-replaceable battery, like the IP68 water resistance rating for that phone. (Although water resistant phone with a removable battery does exist, it does require special design: www.samsung.com/us/business/products/mobile/phones/galaxy-xcover-pro/)
