    I never used my smartphone for a video call, but I thought it would be good to set it up so I can talk with my husband in case of an emergency, like one of us was in the hospital and the other couldn't visit.

    I have Consumer Cellular, and the phone already came with the DUO app, which I never used until today. I was able to set up both of our phones for a test video call, which went okay.....but my screen on my phone was very dark during the short call and remained dark after we hung up.

    I shut it down and restarted, still the screen is dark. I used the speakerphone once in the past without the video call and it didn't affect the brightness of my screen.

    My husband's phone, which is the same brand and service provider as mine, was not affected. He had a normal brightness during the call and his phone looks normal afterwards. Mine is still very dark and hard to see.

    Any advice on what happened and what I can do to get it back to normal? I won't be using video calls often at all, or the speakerphone. We only make short regular calls.

    What happens if you manually change the brightness? Do you have Adaptive Brightness on?

    Thanks for your reply B.Diddy! I just checked the Adaptive Brightness and it was on. When I shut it off, the screen brightness went back to normal. If I made a change to that yesterday, I was unaware of it, wasn't really in the settings screen. Looks like you solved my issue, much appreciated!

    Great! If it keeps getting dark with Adaptive Brightness on, then something might be blocking the ambient light sensor (usually right next to the front-facing camera), like dirty glass or a poorly fitting case.
