No news from Motorola. After an early start with the 2014 models the release has pretty much stopped (or so slow that no one notices it).

Don't worry, our old G will be updated this year. Too many bugs to be polished in the first version, that's what I think.

Guys, today we received an update for the Motorola Update Service which is required to be able upgrade to android L in the future, this doesn't mean you'll get the update today. It just means they're working on it, so go and update the app!

So my Verizon Moto G (2013) doesn't have the app you guys are talking about. Only "Motorola Assist" and "Motorola Contextual Services". The Contextual Services app share the sames icon as the app posted above by Javier P.

Is there anywhere I can find the .apk for that app? I really don't want to miss out on this update.

EDIT: PlayStore says the app is incompatible with my device (XT1028). Why would that be?

Could be that they're going to do a different model first.

I have no doubts the Verizon model will get Lollipop but I don't think it'll be the first first gen Moto G model to get it.

Motorola eyes a positive feedback from the participants as their go-signal to get Lollipop off the ground and into the original edition of the Moto G. The site adds that by the end of December, this will finally push through.

So with the news moto g users 1st generation will see the update some time in January...

    Interesting...

You never know. Sometimes VZW is on the ball. Stress the sometimes. I'm predicting it gets it right after the Boost Mobile G13 gets it. I know you're expecting a serious reply but the only honest answer anyone can give is maybe.

I've a 1st Gen. LTE, purchased from Amazon. It's still saying "up to date." I'm good with that. This phone has been working so well, I don't know as I want any updates.

I have the Moto G 2013 GPe (stock, no root, no custom ROMs) and received the 5.0.1 update via OTA yesterday. So just like the KitKat update skipped 4.4.3 and went from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4, this update also skipped 5.0. The package size was ~380 MB and it installed smoothly. Lollipop is running great so far, still exploring some of the new features. Oh, last FYI, I'm in the U.S.

I did not play much with it. In general the Moto G seemed the same as Kitkat as far as response goes, I didn't notice any huge lags. But then again I am used to Android L in my N4.
It does takes a bit to boot up the first time after the OTA is installed, so be patient for the first time.
If there is anything specific you want me to try out, let me know, I can try it in the evening. I am not allowed to install games in it
If it helps, I didn't (actually couldn't) install the 'Motorola Update Service', probably because the MotoG was from the Playstore.

Phone updates are sent in waves. There's no Nexus between people you know, or people in your region, who have received the device except you. It's a slow rollout, and often times can take a month or two. I'd suggest being patient and checking for updates every couple of days.
