I just bought a Moto G (2nd gen) single sim unlocked which I'm assuming is the 2013 version?

How waterproof/resistant is this phone?

Both phones are splash resistant - they have an oleophobic coating which will make splashes bead and therefore less likely to penetrate the phone. So a dunking or running the phone under the tap is not advised, but occasional use in a rain shower should be OK. The coating is primarily there to protect against fingerprint smudges, the splash resistance is a secondary bonus.
