So, who's considering upgrading to the G4, G4 Plus or G4 Play?
From what I can tell the regular G4 is like moto G, the Play is a Moto E and the G4 is like a Moto X Play?

I'm actually thinking of "downgrading" to this from a Droid Turbo 2. I think I'd appreciate the fingerprint scanner, apparently better camera (according to DxOMark), better battery life (low power processor and 1080p screen), and the fact that it's unlocked but works on Verizon more than I'd appreciate the higher specs and features of my current phone. I just need to see the price and decide whether I can deal with the lack of 1080p video recording and NFC.

Do you use Android Pay (or Android Beam) often?

Also, the Moto G Plus gets an 84 at DxOMark like the DROID TURBO 2.

Nope. Security on smartphones needs to improve significantly before I'll ever consider any Android mobile payment system. I assume you ask because of the lack of NFC on this phone. I'd only really miss it for transferring data from my other phone when setting it up, or as a backup method to transfer small files, so it isn't a big deal.

I saw DxO's review, but I don't really trust their scores. They rated the HTC 10 as high as the S7, which isn't true judging by my experience playing with both phones and numerous camera comparisons online. Besides, they said the G4 Plus has good low light performance, which my Turbo 2 doesn't, and that's what I'm after.

I am considering it,only for the full HD display, not worth upgrading for anything else G3 has similar processor and ram.

Probably good idea to wait for reviews.

Yep dxo cannot be trusted as an independent source. They are paid by the manufacturers.

I have a Moto G 1st Gen. My wife has a 3rd Gen. (I nearly bought a 3rd gen. Then I found out Lenovo cheaped-out and failed to get anything but the X PE certified on TMO's VoLTE, so it's significantly hobbled on their network.)

Answer: Not very likely. Read rajamass' review. The internal hardware may still be Motorola, but, other than that: They've significantly cheapened the phone. Gone is the high-quality case material, nicely-hand-fitting curved back (which lent a lot to grip), and IPX7 water resistance. Gone is the nice size. It's now Just Another Phablet.

Not really seeing much to recommend it. They've ruined the product, IMO.

I'm disappointed, but not surprised. This is pretty much what everybody expected would eventually happen. Now that Lenovo's fully taken-over: Apparently it has.

You couldn't pay me to use Android Pay. I don't trust Android security that far. I barely trust it enough to put Android devices on my home LAN and put an encrypted keyring on it. (And, sometimes, I'm not so certain about that 2nd choice.)

I don't really see a reason to. 3rd gen is working just fine and not much of an upgrade.

Well, my third gen went kaput a few weeks ago so I finally got my new G4 plus (16gb). Fingerprint scanner is awesome for a £200 phone. Seems much better than the G3 for me so far. The screen is so much nicer IMO.

I had bought a Moto G3 16 GB / 2GB for my wife as a present to replace her ageing Galaxy S3, and I was blown away by it. No lagdroid experience like with the S3 (even when it was new years back), finally Android (Marshmallow) has become a decent phone OS, a great and super quick camera, and I really like the look and feel of the G3 since it is so similar to my current daily driver Lumia 920.

I checked out the G4 in the stores to check the actual size of the phone which was perfect, so I ordered a custom (moto-maker) G4 Plus with 64GB / 4GB which basically ticked all my boxes.

I upgraded from the g3 16/2 to the g4 plus 64/4. After one full week so far, no regrets. I'm think with a device like this, I should be all set until the g6 comes out.

Yes, fantastic phone for a fantastic price! My brother in law (apple fan with an iPhone 6) first comment was that my fingerprint scanner was instantaneous (as opposed to apples...).
Perfect screen, and you really don't need more than HD, even on a 5.5" screen. Even better it will use less juice.
Love the glance, it's even better than glance on a Lumia!
Unfortunately all the white screens are annoying. Even with night mode using the app "Nova Launcher" quite some screens are still annoyingly bright white.... Missing that clear black Windows Phone interface!
