notification sounds

I have the Motorola G Play w Android 6.0.1. How do I make the text message and Gmail alert two different sounds? In the settings there's just a phone call and notification option. The notification one seems to be a global setting. Thanks.

You need to change the notification sound in the app settings and not in your phone general settings. In the message app tap on the three dots top right - settings - scroll down - sound. In the Gmail app open the side menu - settings - select account - manage labels - select sound for any of the different labels.
