Persistent Unread Count badge on Messenger

Since today morning after Google Messenger got an update the unread count badge does not go away even after the messages are read.I am on Nova Prime and 7.0.
Is it A Nova problem or Messenger problem ? Any way it can be removed other than disabling it in Nova Settings ? It is quite confusing.

It was fine till the Messenger update .I forgot to mention that I did everything, even cleared cache, uninstalled and reinstalled Tesla unread , lastly uninstalled and reinstalled Nova.Did a fresh set up without restoring from Launcher backups.Problem persists. I have turned off unread badge count for only Messenger now.Other badges are working normally.

I had emailed the Developer.Got a reply just now that the bug has been fixed in Tesla Unread beta and will roll out soon to non beta users
