When I had Android 7 nothing like this happened. Now after my Moto G4 Plus was updated to 8.1.0 I got a series of strange battery events.

If I charge the battery 100%, go to sleep and let the smartphone on, about eight hours later when I wake up the battery is at 95%, sometimes 93%–even if I let it with power saving mode on. With Android 7 it was 99% to 100% without power saving.

If I charge the battery 100%, go to sleep and let the smartphone off, when I turn it on it goes from 100% to 97% just for turning on. With Android 7 it was 100%.

When I start to use the smartphone, it goes pretty fast from 95% to 90% then 80%, and so on. Luckily, the TurboPower charger makes recharging fast, but I have to use it more times every day.

One day the battery was at 20% and zap! the phone turned off by itself. A few days later it happened at 35%!

I have a Galaxy Tab A tablet with Android 7.1.0 that behaves the same way my phone used to when it had the same OS version. That is, if I turn it on after a full charge it stays at 100% after that and stays at 100% for several minutes of use and goes at the same pace for hours.

I've tried most of the tips I found online TNA, like safe mode, checking apps, etc. Even Google Play Services, which I found could be the culprit of battery drain, I checked its version and installed a beta, also TNA. I haven't tried factory reset yet, and I don't want to unless it's the only option left.

Any ideas how I can fix that? TIA.

Everything you're describing sounds like a failing battery. It might just be coincidence that it started happening after the update. Factory reset might have to be your next step as a troubleshooting step -- if the problem persists, then look into replacing the battery.

I did the factory reset and afterwards the problem was still there, so I replaced the battery, then got the same problem with the new battery. The guy who replaced it said it may be some short circuit or whatnot.

Do you know of software I can use to test the phone's hardware that is capable of detecting such stuff? TIA.

For a 3 year old phone, replacement batteries will also be on the older side, so they may have been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years and therefore have been deteriorating as well.

I'm not sure about any software that can test for a short. That would probably require a repair specialist to test.
