My Moto G5 Plus is still on the January 1 update and every time I search for an update it says it's up to date. I'm still using it as a WiFi only device and I'm wondering now if that is causing issues. Does it have to be associated with a carrier to see updates?

I answered my own question. I put my SIM from iPhone into my Moto and it saw the update immediately. It would be nice to be able to update without being connected to a carrier.

January 2018? I'm still on august 2017
Pretty sure the user was referring to January 2017 security patch that they were stuck on and now it's upgraded.

Current US/North American Moto G5+ XT1687 is on August 2017 security update (NPN25.137-83)... Most of the rest of the world's G5+ are on December 2017 (NPN25.137-92).

Moto G5 Plus has received the Nov security patch in some countries including India. The G5S Plus has received the Dec security patch.
Edit - The G4 Plus has also received the Dec security patch.

I have a G5+ and am with Three in the UK (I don't think the carrier matters here as much as it does in the US).

As with Macdtek above, my phone's on the August 2017 security patch.
