The price of the Moto X is predicted to be significantly lower than that of the Samsung S4. Yet the specs are very similar. People are saying the Moto X will not be a premium device like the Samsung or the HTC. What is the basis of this argument?

Some ppl are stupid, some ppl say stupid things. It's hard to justify what their reasons could be.

An ***** I talk to claims that you need quad core now to not lag. Because his note 1 lags so all dual core phones lag. He also claims you need over 3000 mah battery to be good.

Lol its all speculation at this point. Including price and specs. A lot of ppl could be upset if it is something completely different, but that's why you don't expect much.

Price is the biggest thing I see ppl getting bent out of shape about. My money is on it being $200 on contract and $500+ off. But many are saying nexus prices that I don't see any evidence for. This will mean many will be angry if it is not what they thought.

The only low spec about the phone is the display.

Assuming it is pentile I agree with you.

If it is not I think it is not necessarily a bad thing since it saves battery. And 720p on a 4.7" screen is plenty of resolution as far as I am concerned. I've had 720p and 1080p displays of that size and really don't notice the screen resolution improvement. I would happily have the screen on my HTC One swapped for a 720 p one if it came with just 10% more battery life (and chances are it would be more like 20%).

However 720p AMOLED in pentile configuration is noticeably worse. It would be reason enough for me to avoid the Moto X.

Galaxy Nexus here. There's tons of better screens out there, but I have never once faulted my screen for anything other than using battery too rapidly.

720p screen is inexcusable in 2013. An Apple iPhone 4 from 2010 has 326ppi while this 2013 Motorola X has 316ppi.

I don't know what Motorola and Google were thinking. The screen is one of the biggest selling points of a phone. Not some funky software modification/function.

OK I will say that now that it has become clear that the phone costs pretty much exactly the same as the One or S4, and that the specs really offer no advantage but only disadvantages, I think I'm changing my mind.

It's very difficult to tell the difference between pixel quality on phones with ppi over 300 unless you put them side by side and look very closely.

Which specs? It lost in the screen category on resolution, despite being based on a dual core chip, the X8, performance wise, seems superior on the processing power and either tied or beat the rest. It has much better battery life advertised (yet to be tested), much better software (faster, cleaner, more useful features) and allegedly a much better camera (still waiting for comparisons on this as well). For those that like removable batteries and storage, this has nothing to help with that. That'd be the one thing I could think of to swing things in the S4's favor. But for the majority of the market that doesn't care, the Moto X is arguably equal to or better than the S4. I'm not saying the Moto X beats the S4 hands down, but they're definitely in the same conversation.

Much more if you're talking off-contract.
